Mesothelioma: Click on pleuralmesothelioma.com/cancer/life-expectancy/ to view an educational guide about pleural mesothelioma. According to David Sides, the Public Outreach Coordinator at The Mesothelioma Center, “Countless veterans are currently suffering from life-threatening illnesses that are a result of exposure to asbestos, a material that was commonly used in hundreds of military applications, products, and ships because of its resistance to fire. Veterans who have been diagnosed with mesothelioma even qualify for special benefits from the U.S Department of Veteran Affairs.” Additional legal information can be viewed at Mesothelioma Information.

Mental Health Clinic for veterans – A mental health clinic for veterans and their family members opened in Tampa, Florida in August 2019 and offers treatment for conditions such as post-traumatic stress disorder, anxiety, and depression. A low-cost facility, it is the 13th of 25 clinics opened through the $375 million commitment from billionaire Steven Cohen. A second Florida clinic is planned for Jacksonville, Florida. The Cohen Veterans Network expects to have all 25 clinics up and running by the end of 2020. Transportation to and from the clinics is free. For those without insurance or with limited coverage, the clinic will cover expenses through grant funding. Cohen made the commitment in 2010 when his son, a Marine, was deployed to Afghanistan.
